Gros Morne

Tuesday and Wednesday we were in Gros Morne National Park. We had some time Tuesday afternoon after travelling from Charlottetown, NL, and we explored the south side of Bonne Bay - Woody Point, and Trout River. We had dinner at the Seaside Restaurant in Trout River. We plowed through 2 lbs. of mussels, and had steelhead trout while sitting at a window overlooking the beach. Another highlight of many we've had these 2 weeks.

Wednesday we walked in to Western Brook Pond for the boat trip up the fjord. The weather was perfect, even with the ever-present, relentless wind. The comment Jane keeps making about NL is that it's just so big. My neck hurts from looking up to the tops of the cliffs of the fjord. We took 480 pics between us, so there may be one or two that will be suitable for posting. On a side note, we have yet to see a moose; lots of signs and warnings, but still no sightings. However.... we did see a black bear as we were walking in to the pond. We had just entered a wooded area after crossing a bog, and there it was, on the path. It was about 100 feet away. We stopped, it stopped, we looked at it, it looked at us, we took it's picture, and it continued on in the woods. We waited a minute for another couple to catch up to us, and we carried on. Oh, and we saw a herd of caribou on the walk out.

We've been to Cow Head, Leading Tickles, Harbour Mille, Gooseberry Cove, Hare Bay, Brigus, Harbour Grace, Fortune, Garnish, Petit Forte. I should make a list of all the places we've been. We're on our way today from Deer Lake to Cape Anguille, the western-most point of NL. We were at Cape Spear on Sunday, the eastern-most point of North America. We were glad to have brought our winter jackets and toques. And yesterday we were in tee-shirts.

Cape Anguille does not have phones, let alone internet, but we may have internet access on the ferry (assuming I can get Jane on board). I'll try to post some Gros Morne pics then.
